Wings of Doom

"a genius discovered"

submission: Wings of Doom
date: May 29, 2005

Amazing, just amazing. The effect this had on me was incredible. I love everything about this movie. You're a genius, a pure genius. Everything in this flash fit together seamlessly and each aspect complimented the whole. The preacher reading scripture in the opening and closing was brilliant, and the chosen verses were perfect. The music built a sense of sorrow that began with the graveyard scene and built to a crescendo with the noise of the bombs exploding in the city. I got the sense that as the mourner turned his grief stricken face from the grave and faced the war torn city, that he was turning away from his true self. In facing the city, casting back his hood, and raising his scythe, the reaper stands revealed. However, the expression on his face, although gleeful, has an undercurrent of sadness to it. Such as he may be thinking, 'this is the role humanity has forced me into with its folly, hatred, and greed, so be it'.

Baby In The Path

"a mixed bag of talents"

submission: Baby In The Path
date: May 29, 2005

I really liked the backgrounds, so I rate graphics high, although the characters themselves were uninspired. Again with style, I liked the style of the setting, it was very impressive, however the characters were just not of the same caliber. And the story, for what the artist had to say, was way too long. What happened really? They ran for a long time then there was a jump, some quick shooting then the end. The movie was running. That's it. Running. The artist apologizes for this flash being short? That's its salvation. Don't apoligize! I've checked out a couple of this guy's flash movies now, because 'STOP CRYING YOUR HEART OUT' is amazing. I don't see in his individual efforts the incredible talent I'm seeing in the collaboration, so I'm guessing it's the others who carried the collaboration.

The Stairway

"a good start"

submission: The Stairway
date: March 15, 2005

The creator has a vision and will certainly grow his talent at expressing that vision.

I especially enjoyed the 'Valley Girl' disclaimer the author posted in his introductory comments. [it's just got a TON of symbolism in it fer sure fer sure] And the haughty and elitist tone [This will probably confuse you] This isn't exactly Kafka or Nietzsche. It does, however, probably allow the creator to dismiss any criticism as the bleatings of the unwashed masses. Either that or the author desperately hopes you will find it loaded with 'scads' of symbolism. Hmmm... it's so hard to read introductory statements of that sort without attempting to read INTO them.

In any case, the author needn't have bothered, this is solid work that stands on it's own merit, without an introductory statement of any sort. The raw talent is exciting and the crystalizing world view of the author intriguing. I believe this creator has an amazing future in this medium.

Author's Response:

The entire movie is symbolizing the whole theory/idea behind it. Other than that, it seems like you missed the point.

"underwhelming"

submission: T E R R O R

while I agree wholeheartedly with the sentiment expressed, this presentation could've been so much more.

And since you had such a short presentation, (I can't seem to convince myself to call it a movie) I wonder why you had to have the screens change so quickly? I couldn't read all of it on a couple screens before you changed to the next image whcih wasn't really necessary considering you showed the last image for the last third of the song.

I think I get what your trying to do, but there's way better examples of this type of stuff on a different website which I hesitate to mention for fear of the SO HELP ME GOD proviso.

"that's 3 minutes I'd like to have back"

If I didn't love Johnny Cash so much I'd give this a zero and blam it to heck.

Was this some kind of joke? A war flick set in Mexico in 2010? Once the song ended I realized a little of this 'art' goes a long way.

I don't know if anything really happens after ring of fire ends... I had mercy on my soul and clicked the X.

nightShift: a true story

"oh man that is so ill"

date: January 10, 2005

Having worked the night shift on some screwed up jobs over the years I can relate. Sometimes a mishap occurs when you're not exactly wide awake. I was stunned at the outcome of this film, tho. I was certainly unexpected.

"an earlier reviewer stated it best, "I'm hooked!""

date: January 10, 2005

I don't know what to say that hasn't been said already but I had to add my kudos to the others. If you did a feature film on Brackenwood I'd go see it many times, buy the DVD, the soundtrack, the T shirt, etc... I wish I lived in the world you've created, it's that appealing.

The New Years Party

"could use some polishing"

date: January 10, 2005

I thought the vocals were great, and the action of the guy when he was telling the story, flipping his hair, etc... then the scatting started and I was confused the first time, bewildered the second time, then laughing because the dance and the song was funny. Then I noticed the dance remained the same, as it were. And then when the black and white figures bumped heads the entire dance sequence segued into the narration sequence in a jarring manner, then the entire movie ends so abruptly it's like getting thunked on the nose. If it were polished a little bit, the jarring parts worked over, that's really the only glaring defect and well, the story itself being weak but like they say, those who can, do... and those who can't, criticize
